Review on πŸ“ Leica 838725 DISTO D2 New 330ft Laser Distance Measure with Bluetooth 4.0, Black/Red, Compact Design by James Prizgint

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Inexpensive bluetooth laser meter, shame the build quality has slipped

The new Disto D2 has Bluetooth functionality, which makes it very easy to transfer measurements from the laser gauge to apps such as Leica's own Disto Sketch (free) or MagicPlan (free app, you pay for the floor plan). You used to have to buy expensive high end models like my E7500i to get this functionality and they were heavier and more difficult to use due to the many features. They also increased range by 50%, which is nice. Unfortunately, the build quality of the device seems to have dropped. The rubber pad has very sharp edges, making it uncomfortable to hold. The fold-down lower gauge plate is now plastic instead of metal, and the red and black zebra stripe down the side looks downright gaudy, but doesn't offer a more secure grip than the old D2. Overall, the price difference between the two models is small enough that I'd still recommend the Bluetooth model for an easier workflow, but I wish it was built to the same standards as the old device.
