My Work Sharp WS3000 has been running for about a month and the results I have received have been disappointing. It had an annoying chirp that got louder over time and caused uneven bevel angles on the same piece as it moved from one abrasive to another. When the chirping got so loud I could barely hear the tool hitting the abrasive, I called the company's technical support line. The representative was very polite and sent me instructions on how to change the drive belt tension. It looks like it worked. For a few minutes the chirping returned, louder than ever. This seemed like dry stock to me, but further communication with tech support revealed a few things I might be doing wrong while using the machine. On my second attempt to tighten the drive belt, I turned the machine over and the disc spindle fell onto my workbench. A groove in the bottom of the spindle indicated that it must have been held in place by some kind of circlip. When I next contacted tech support, the rep decided I needed to send my machine in for a replacement. I argued that the problem could be solved by simply purchasing and installing a matching locking ring. My request for clamp specifications was ignored and again I was offered to return the machine. Businesses don't seem to realize that customers aren't spending that kind of money to be hassled by the returns process and the long wait for a replacement. Internal processes are more important than customer satisfaction. My solution was to take the car apart (no rocket science), look for other damage or obvious missing parts, then go to the local hardware store, buy a suitable snap ring and install it on the car. Once assembled, the WS3000 worked as intended and works without a single beep. The repair cost was 40 cents and it took no more than packing up my car and sending it to UPS for shipping back to the manufacturer. Now that the machine has a full set of parts, properly lubricated and adjusted, it does an excellent job of sharpening chisels. Work Sharp abrasives are a little slower to work wonders on old hardened steel planes from the 40's and 50's, but they are fast on modern steel, especially on bit edges. This is a great machine and sharpening system. I even ordered a set of DMT discs for him. However, it would be desirable to pay more attention to quality control.
