A Professional Installer's Thoughts

First, it looks a heck of a lot better than the Metra kit. This alone is the main reason to buy this Metra offering. But it's not perfect either. First, mine came with no instructions, although they really aren't needed if you're experienced at installing head units. Also, I have no idea why that little square pictured next to the brackets is a separate part and not just popped into the kit. This is a 4" top screen trim, it mounts on the back and DOES NOT stick at all. I glued it in place and it works/looks fine. As several others have pointed out, moving away from your factory dash, air conditioning vents do not fully engage. With some work I got all the outer tabs to click but not the inner one (must be the one James M mentioned in his review). although it looks and works great. Also, as others have said, the entire kit doesn't snap into place like a factory plate does. It holds very well and looks good, but it doesn't snap into place. Next it comes with a new door lock and alarm button, but they don't latch very well either. I play their little rigging system and it actually annoys me a bit. I'll probably fix it with super glue as well (update: I glued it in place so it's perfect now). Finally, it's a bit tricky to perfectly line up the position of your particular head unit with the included double din hole, ESPECIALLY if your new head unit has a motorized surface. Simply insert the brackets into the appropriate holes and the installation seemed to work. but left large 1/4 inch gaps between the face and the kit on 3 sides and the kit hit the 4th side making it impossible to open the faceplate. I actually had to drill my own holes in the brackets to mount them to the main unit. work right/face right (center position of their holes but 1/4 inch down). It's not 100% correct yet, but probably 90+% correct. You will see in the photos I posted that the gaps are mostly gone. You'll also see that the head unit isn't even positioned left-to-right. There's a little more room on the left than on the right, which I can't fix as these brackets attach to factory posts and screw into factory holes. In any case, I seem to have a lot of complaints. I do. But in general everything works and looks good. I almost gave 3 stars for all my complaints but I think it deserves 4 stars for the final look. UPDATE: It's been almost a year and everything still looks and works fine. I had to fit a Metra kit at work and I'm VERY glad I used the Scosche kit on my car.
