This design works best for knife hooks. I'm holding the knife, so I'm judging them from that point of view. These hooks aren't as long as other ergonomic brands which may not solve your personal hand ailment (see photo for comparison) but the hook coverage is better than any I've used and I've tried at least 10 different types. The longer length of the hooks gets the end of the hook out of your palm area if you are a knife knitter. This placement of the hook end can be a problem for the development of hand disease. When using metal hooks, especially small ones, the grip makes the hand smaller and tightens the muscles around the tendons and ligaments. In addition, the slippery nature of the metal and the natural oils on the fingertips make the hook slippery and therefore the grip even stronger. The coating on these hooks will not become slippery. Also, the flat thumb surface (see photo) and the slight curve of the hook keep the thumb in place and prevent the end of the hook from digging into the palm. This is a very comfortable hook with a coating, shape and thumb rest. I have used Bates hooks for many years. I also have hero hooks. Boye hooks were too round for me. As I got older and my eyesight got worse, Boye style crochet hooks stopped breaking yarn as often. So I really like the Boye style hooks they have. If you are new to crocheting, find out if you will be holding a pen or knife before ordering. Is it important. This is the best set I have found for the price. I'm tempted to buy another set for doctor visits or visiting relatives. I don't want to lose any of the hooks! No large sizes except (US)K. These hooks are wide enough not to be uncomfortable in the hand, but some companies still make ergonomic versions.
