For locking the end caps on Christmas lights. The lights (several strings in series) were connected to the GFCI which kept going out. I had to go through each string and plug in each one in turn until I realized the short was being caused by connectors soldered into these caps. Water got in and degraded rather than improved the electrical connection as the water was trapped. Also, there are small latches on all 4 corners of this thing that are difficult to undo to open the lids and very easy to break. In general, these cases did not serve their purpose and I would not buy them again.
