Typical barn door lock

This is a good barn door lock but having no other experience with this type of lock I give it three stars - average.1. It was easy to install.2. I mounted a lock on the door with the hinges on the outside to the left of the door and the lock on the right.3. The orientation of the key slot when locked is horizontal rather than vertical like most locks. Thus, the operation of the lock is NOT intuitive in comparison. In addition, the key is significantly smaller than a standard house key.4. I have to pay close attention to how the teeth of the key line up when I open the lock. For left-hand hinges, the prongs of the key should point to the left when opening and to the right when locking. The key rotates 180 degrees counterclockwise to unlock and 180 degrees clockwise to lock. DO NOT return the key to its original position after turning it. It took some trial and error to figure this out, as most home locks have a vertical slot and will always turn back to the same position regardless of locking or unlocking. Once this is learned the lock works great. The hasp inside the barn can be operated from the inside so you can close the door and turn it to the locked position to keep the door closed when you are in the barn. Note. It is NOT blocked, just closed. Key operation is separate from this.6. It is also possible for someone to get locked in if another person locks the lock from the outside with the door closed. IN SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE LOCK FROM THE INSIDE! If the supplied Allen key was handy in the shed, you COULD remove the handle and come out.
