This gasket kit will fit the following Ford SOHC (single overhead camshaft): 1.9 liter engines (1991-1996) in the Ford Escort, Mercury Tracer and some early Ford Focus . I agree with other reviewers as the seal looks like it has the ribs on its head. The original (factory) gasket was black silicone rubber and was ripped up into the groove on the valve cover only on the side; the other side (facing the cylinder head) was flat. Because it was so flexible, it was more difficult to stay in the groove before the valve cover was fitted onto the cylinder head; The only way to get this right is to put a thick, sticky lube (like Lucas "Red N Tacky") on the valve cover before you put the gasket on it. Both Victor Reinz and Fel-Pro production seals are rigid, look different than OEM (although it doesn't make technical sense to me), and the installation procedure must be followed according to the manufacturer's instructions. Quote: - Make sure the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and valve cover are clean and free of scoring, oil, etc. - The rocker cover gasket must first (!) use rubber mounting tabs (into the gasket for easy installation) up to the cylinder head. - Always replace the three (3) supplied rocker cover bushings. - Torque the three center rocker cover bolts to 9-11.5 Nm (70-101 lb-in) at the 1/ 4" wide contact is the cap side of the valve. End of quote. All I can say is the seal fits and is tight without leaking.
