I have not used a refractometer before and have relied on an areometer instead. This product works well and appears to be as accurate as my hydrometer. I've tested it on my hydrometer and taken numerous readings from both and they've always been close. I will only use this device for all future brew measurements. The scale is easy to read and you use significantly less product in the measuring process. I would recommend this to anyone new to brewing or still using a hydrometer. It comes complete with a protective case, 3 pipettes to measure the product, a cleaning cloth and instructions for use. For the price this is a small investment for this quality instrument.
