I just bought this drive to use with a new HP Pavilion X360 laptop. I connected the drive to my laptop, which recognized the device immediately. I was reading DVD files on my laptop. Then I tried to write to a blank disk. I could not find the "Burn" function in the menu window of the displayed file folder. I chose "Manage" and then "Extract". The system then wrote the files to disk and ejected them. A little different but it worked so I won't complain. Based on what has been demonstrated for read/write capability, I don't boot the Buffalo software from the included disc. I don't need to! One more comment: This drive reads standard DVD movie discs, but NOT Blu-Ray. To do this, you need to buy a Buffalo Blu-Ray drive. The second part of this is that while the drive is reading the movie disc, you still need to have software on your system that will read the disc and play the movie. There is no such software for this in Windows 10, you have to buy it. Most external DVD drives don't offer this movie reading software either, so don't think this is just a Buffalo issue.
