Review on 🌑️ Extech RHT30 USB Humidity/Temperature Datalogger: Track and Record Environmental Conditions with Accuracy by Nick Winnett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great, PC required

Before installing the exhaust fan I wanted to monitor the temperature and humidity in the garage. The device is well made and comes with some useful accessories. On the front you can see the current / maximum / minimum temperature and humidity. You need to connect it to PC via USB to set date, time and device registration parameters. The software installed perfectly on my 64-bit Win 7 PC. I downloaded the latest version from the Extech website. The software works surprisingly well. I was able to quickly create a check-in schedule, set the time on the device, and switch to Fahrenheit. Various logging options are available, from 1 sample per second (maximum 4 hours 32 minutes) to one sample every 24 hours and everything in between. I used one sample per minute, which is enough for 11 days 8 hours. You can stop registering a device after it has collected the maximum number of samples, or overwrite the oldest data. It simultaneously records temperature and humidity. After a week of registration, I connected the device to my PC and was able to quickly download the data and view it as a chart or spreadsheet. When you export data to a file, it is a tab-delimited file that can be opened in a spreadsheet. Each temperature and relative humidity value with a time stamp (m/d/yy:m:s) will be included in the file. The graphical representation cannot be saved by the program, but you can take a screenshot. The data can also be saved in a suitable format for later reading into the software. On the other hand, there isn't much you can do from the control panel, e.g. B. changing from Celsius (factory setting) to Fahrenheit or setting up logging. or view previous logs. The instruction manual is sparse (-1 star) and somewhat helpful. If you don't know how to use a PC, this device may not be for you. The display on the front panel is a bit confusing, I don't understand some of the data. There is no backlight. The battery is one of those expensive non-rechargeable camera batteries, standard 9V or AA, AA would be better. There are two tiny (easy to lose) screws holding the battery cover in place, but the screws fit metal sockets, not plastic - thanks to Extech for that. The battery cover looks eco-friendly. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the RHT20.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I have doubts
