These are the old school plastic drinking straws you've been looking for.

later These are the same strong flexible straws that come with the large sippy cups from the gas station fountain. My personal choice is the stainless steel Bubba mug found here on Revain. I drilled a small hole in the lid, barely the diameter of a straw, on the opposite side of the "Sip" port. This allows the port cover to remain closed and eliminates the risk of spillage. These straws are perfect for this application and stand up to daily use very well, in my case they last for years.
