When I bought these I was looking for an alternative to regular sponges that would be better for the environment. They don't do well as dishwashing sponges for me - I have arthritis in my hands which makes them difficult to grip, especially when craving wet, and they kind of stick to the plate making it too hard. However, they absorb a lot of soap and water, so they can work well for other people even if they are small. However, they make an excellent absorbent pad under fruit and veg, which is what I use now. I always wash my food the same way, then arrange it on plates and put it in the fridge. This works great on the bottom of the bowl to absorb moisture and keep food fresher for longer. Between batches I wash them with some dish soap and let them air dry.
