All in all, this seems like a great idea. I was particularly looking forward to using it to set up a small media device (something like a DAP that could possibly even work with Youtube). However, I immediately encountered a problem. Although they've slightly improved the design of the CPU/RAM cooler and included a fan that fits in even when the screen is on, it still has little to no actual airflow. When setting it up, I noticed that something was twitching, and then I looked at the temperature, it was 65°C and kept rising. This is with no overclocking or even me touching the boot settings from the image they provided. I quickly closed it and opened it to see if I had done anything wrong. I had not. Unfortunately, the fan even leaked some oil (so just that one drop obviously shortened its lifespan significantly). Taking a closer look at the design, I managed to improve it a bit. I added more vents to the case, placed a small extra heatsink on top of the metal piece that goes through the CPU and RAM, and added some small cardboard standoffs to raise the fan a bit. Unfortunately, the screws are too small and I was only able to raise it by less than a millimeter, but it all reduced the temperature at least a little. It's still going pretty high, so I think more effort is needed, but that's just the beginning. More air vents, longer screws and a smaller heatsink area over the SoC area of the main heatsink would result in a significant performance increase and I think it would be pretty obvious to their developers as they could certainly see the same thing as me. . In particular, I think it will help if I can find longer screws to push the CPU fan higher, but finding ones that fit and hold will be difficult. It was a design flaw that they were able to fix very easily before going on sale. Another thing that drives me crazy is the fact that the screen only works in X. It is initialized by the system first, but never actually shows anything in the console. Everyone. The funny thing is that they even made a few changes regarding fonts etc to fix this problem. Many screens of this nature can actually work in console and I just don't see any reason why this one shouldn't work as well - although of course their console work is significantly worse than the normal real screen. It also makes some things a lot harder and reduces the number of things that work well with this screen. Also, since as the other person mentioned you need to be using the full Raspbian/Ubuntu/whatever, this adds a lot to the overall system requirements and used disk space, which can be problematic if your intended usage is to be anything more than minimal. I see that it is now marked as unavailable. In my experience, this usually means the new listing ends up with the same base product. Hopefully it will get better but at least keep that in mind as it will most likely stay the same.
