So I just bought a new 2.5 gallon aquarium for my betta. I wanted to put in a filter to keep the water clean and circulating. I first bought a Whisper filter for aquariums up to 3 gallons and was very disappointed (very noisy and didn't filter the water at all) so I ordered one from Revain. So far it works great. Actually very quiet. I have a tank right next to my bed so a quiet filter is a must. I can barely hear it, but the sound it makes is constant, soft, bubbly, so it's still great for sleeping. , so I put on a small strip of pantyhose around the entrance part to slow the flow a bit. I see a lot of people saying their fish got sucked in. To be honest, I doubt that's the case in most cases. What probably happened is that the fish died on their own, and since the filter sucks in all the floating debris, the dead fish gets sucked in, making it look like the filter is to blame. If you're still worried about this, you can do what I did and partially cover the entrance with pantyhose (don't cover it completely or it won't work; mine is about half covered). Overall, this filter was the best I could find for a 2.5 gallon tank. It's smaller than any other filter I've found, it keeps the water clean and aerated, it's quiet, and replacement cartridges are pretty cheap. The only thing I couldn't use for this was that I couldn't put the cap on that far from the water, so I just leave it in the tank. This still works, although you'll probably want to make sure the filter isn't completely submerged in water. I definitely recommend it to Betta owners! Just an update: It's been a few months. I went ahead and pulled off a strip of pantyhose. I have an artificial plant in front of the filter to break the flow a bit. The filter still works and is not too strong for my betta. Actually, he likes to rest on this plant right in front of the filter and doesn't seem to bother him at all. Like I said, I'm not worried about getting sucked in and getting killed. I think those fish died first and then got sucked in by the filter. It's either that, or these people were keeping the fish in tanks that were too small. However, it works great in my little 2.5 gallons - still quiet, still clean and not too strong. Nevertheless I recommend! Second update: This is how my rooster died after living with me for about two and a half years :( However, he wasn't sucked into the filter, he died on the opposite side of the aquarium and was there until I took him. Finally, after a few weeks ago i got more one betta and i use the same filter, while my previous betta didn't seem to mind at all, this one didn't seem able to handle the current one (it has much longer fins than the other one so maybe ), so I covered most of the entrance with pantyhose again, and now it feels great.
