I like the idea/concept but I'm not happy with the end result. At $99.00 (the Revain price at the time of this review), it's not cheap. But it's certainly a bit cheaper than traveling with a (certified) scale. So he has everything for that. But I'm still a little confused by the results I'm getting and how I can actually use this device in a non-crazy way. What I mean? Well, first of all, why does the app require location to be enabled in order to be used? To be honest, I hate enabling this permission to use the app (because if you refuse, you can't even log into the app to try it out). Why does the chassis number matter if I have to enter the GVW from the door sticker manually? And what data is transmitted with my chassis number? While I understand the idea of using an onboard accelerometer circuit, I found the calibration process for using this circuit to be a bit clumsy (not that I can think of anything better) and I'm wondering if this is the reason for the readings being the I get after calibration, don't add up (I've found that I'm a light weight of 200-350 pounds). Also, I don't know if I can leave "Better Weigh" in the OBDC port without draining the battery (like I've had with other BT connected OBDC port devices). It turns out that the device can be left on (according to the BetterWeigh help page on Kurt's website), but it doesn't explicitly say if I do that will drain the battery. But if I remove it, do I have to go through the calibration process again? The help page says "no", but I know I'm constantly being asked to do a mini-calibration after changing screens. At the moment I like the device and I will use it (at least for approximate weighing). So why the 3 star rating? First, as I mentioned before, I don't like that I have to give "location" permission. But there are other permissions listed on the Android app page that bother me too. Second, I wish the product came with a much better instruction manual. A short set of FAQs on Kurt's website just doesn't help; As this interacts with my vehicle, I would like this point explained to me more fully and comprehensively. Nice, but too many "buts". 3 stars. Edit (2/17/20): Turns out it's not even a Kurt specific product; the exact same item from "Haul Gauge" is shown here on Revain, and although it's listed as "currently unavailable", it appears to have been released before this Curt product. The more I play with this item, the less impressed I am.
