Review on Hifonics ZEUS ZRX1216.1D Amplifier – 1200W, Super Class D, Mono, Auto On, Nickel Plated, Remote Control, Alum Heat Sink by Pavan Cormier

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Overrated but still capable.

Out of the box I immediately pricked up my ears - this amp doesn't feel like the old Hifonics at all. It's very, very light, feels empty and the whole body moves in your hands. I had an old Hifonics Brutus amp ten years ago and it was of a much better build quality and power rating, although not very clean. 1k (clamped to 910 watts with Fluke) even with excellent electrics - OFC 0 sensor, 25 Ah limitless lithium battery and 250 ampere alternator. However, it works and provides power to the subwoofers. If you're happy with 900 amps, that's enough. Observe the limitations and do not overload the output signal with clipping, then it will work perfectly. I ended up returning it and buying a Skar RP-1500D, a cheap Chinese desktop amp that's actually a bit overrated. delivers 1575 watts RMS into 1 ohm. No clipping, poor signal and a battering sound with deeper bass, less MSRP to my ears (and other internals thanks to an EVL15 subwoofer in a 31Hz tuned enclosure). I am very happy with the Skar amp. Also their after sales service/guarantee is something I have used in the past and will implicitly trust if I need it again.
