I got this because the Kitchenaid OEM splash guard has at least a couple of fixed holes that aren't easy to close. This is somewhat problematic for butter production, for example. I had already concluded that using it as a "sealed storage container" would be a bit of a stretch. Even with the best fit, the joints could hardly be remotely airtight. It can pick up most of the dust, but I wouldn't trust it for bug repellent or fridge odors. More importantly, it doesn't fit very well. It was literally a stretch to fit it out of the box, so the center section's joints didn't line up perfectly without excessive flexing. For reference, I have two versions of the Kitchenaid 4.5 liter stainless steel bowl: the original version that came with my blender (without the handle) and a later version that I bought 5-10 years ago (with the handle). The fit of the lid was equally poor on both, mainly because the gaps in the locking tabs aren't big enough to fit around the rounded edge of the bowl. Luckily I was able to improve the fit with a utility knife and a small flat file. so i can use this. After my modifications, this turned out to be very useful when making butter (my main use case). I have almost no spatter except for a small amount on the planetary gear housing. Aside from the fit, it would have been better if this lid was fully transparent so I could easily see the mixing without removing half the lid.
