Review on ๐Ÿšต Sena M1 EVO Smart Mesh Communications Mountain Bike Helmets: Stay Connected on the Trails by James Vilchez

Great helmet. Could be phenomenal.

Great product, can't believe I waited so long to get this. I will definitely be buying one for my wife and for my kids in the future. It was great to finally be able to listen to my music playlists and answer my phone calls without pedaling distraction or distraction. Good experience. Also, calls were crystal clear and the mic had no problem getting my voice to my wife when clipping through the wind. Holding the center button for 3 seconds will summon Siri and you can ask her to call someone or go where you want. I'm really happy with it. I tested it yesterday on a 3 hour ride with music and 5 or 6 phone calls and the battery lasted great the whole ride. I used the medium volume setting. Not sure how long this will last at high volume (and for me at least I can say that high volume will definitely be distracting - I couldn't hear my son talking when I turned the volume up - he doesn't have one though from which we can use the communicator). Taillights are an added bonus. Because it's on the cyclist's torso, it helps the driver see you at night. The helmet also looks great and seems to offer better protection than my previous one. Let's look at a few things that could make this helmet phenomenal. Please note that anything I mention below does not detract from the value of this product as it offers excellent connectivity and uninterrupted music/navigation. I will keep it for myself and buy others, that is, I like it and recommend it to anyone who can endure the following problems: 1) No bass. I knew it was going to be difficult to get some bass out of these small speakers, but for practice music that's a bummer. The beat is completely flat and it took me a few minutes to get used to it. 2) It's hard. To the point that by the end of the trip my neck was aching. I have no doubt that I will get used to this, but it definitely adds a tremendous amount of weight. 3) No MIPS. The helmet comes at a premium price, so I believe they could add MIPS to give riders advanced protection. Even though I've always ridden without one when changing helmets, I'd love to add this new level of protection. 4) No turn signals, the rear LEDs are barely visible during the day. Cornering lights can be a gimmick for some, but competitors are now offering this and it helps vehicles behind see which direction you'll be going so it can add extra visibility/safety. As for the LEDs, they could provide brighter LEDs for daylight visibility.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
