All-in-one gaming monitor for enthusiasts

Cautions and Warnings: (Caution) Be sure to check the four brass pins on the VESA mount before attaching the monitor. The lighting area on the stand has not been working for two weeks (see photo). After taking it apart I noticed that two of the four were broken. Since then I have planned an exchange. (Warning) The monitor with stand weighs approximately 25 pounds. Handle with care. My computer specs, for context: Intel i7-7700K @ 4.20GHz, 32GB, RAMEVGA 1080Ti FTW3 (11GB), AW3420DW Display Specs: Screen Type: TFT LCD Panel Technology: Fast IPS Nano Color (21:9), Viewing angle: 178 degrees Contrast ratio: 1000:1 Color space: 134.5% sRGB and DCI P3 98% Response time: 2 ms (extreme mode); 3 ms (ultra-fast mode); 4 ms (fast mode) HDMI: 3440 x 1440 at 50 Hz DP: 3440 x 1440 at 120 Hz (4) Light Zones Advantages: 1.) G-Sync. Variable refresh rate...need I say more? 2.) 120Hz (DP); Make sure you use the DP exit to reach the goal. 3.) Cable routing tabs make setup and routing easier (see image). 4.) The cable is skipped if you want to put the soundbar in front of it. Not shown here is the Razer Leviathan, which is not only great for sound but can also be physically placed in front of this monitor, allowing the keyboard cable to run underneath unnoticed. 5.) The touchpad sensor makes it easy to turn lighting zones on and off. 6.) Easy to use monitor interface with joystick to fine tune color (and others) (see image). 7.) Additional USB 3.0 ports available via the included upstream connector. 8.) No dead pixels on arrival. Cons: 1.) No HDR. Several competitors in this class already offer cheaper solutions with HDR, G-SYNC and high refresh rates (LG, ASUS). If you can sacrifice lighting, monitor size, and a few extra features, an HDR monitor might be your best bet. 2.) Alienware RGB trick. I had Alienware PCs before Dell, so I'm aware of the RGB craze before it even hit the mainstream. RGB is good, don't get me wrong. However, if it saves me $$$ on a monitor, I can do without it. 3.) A response time of 2 ms in extreme mode is achievable, but it comes at a price. There are visible artifacts (ghosting) seen with fast motion. A quick test with the mouse confirmed that. A more extensive test using Blur Busters' UFO test confirms this. Verdict. If you're looking for a good refresh rate, high-quality colors, and a wide screen for multitasking, projects, schoolwork, and media/video editing, you've come to the right place. The price is a bit high but worth the investment. As with most monitors, trade-offs have to be made. With the advent of OLED as a viable option for gaming, you might want to wait 'til you get your cake and eat it too (gaming AND Gamma). I enjoy taking full advantage of this monitor for work, web surfing, school and gaming. If you're looking for a monitor that will render almost every block, except for a few that have a more dynamic color range, this is for you.
