Cloudy mess for a while.

The plants grew normally in it. I added Excel and fertilizer. I wanted to order a dark one, but accidentally chose a red pad. It looks great with my blue background and green plants. A black and dark substrate might be better, but this red is a blurry mess that needs addressing. I rinsed it in a bucket for twenty minutes and then spent an hour placing it in a colander and running water through it. Then I threw it in the aquarium and it was so cloudy I could only see 2 or 3 inches. After a few days it became clear so I tried moving the substrate as I like but again very cloudy. I tried deep suction for 5 days and the container was always very cloudy. The field was very dirty and needed cleaning. Everything was covered with bureaucracy. As long as I barely touch the back, it looks fine now. When I try to plant or move like a plant, a small red cloud forms, but it disappears after about 15 minutes. I've heard that black is easier to clean, but don't know first hand. If you really want a red substrate, that's probably fine, but be prepared to play around for a while.
