Easy fix for display and AC
An important detail for my 1997 BMW, this one comes with a socket that is usually missing along with the probe. I still had the socket, but it was so damaged by the environment under the car that I had to replace it anyway. The temperature reading -40 did not change immediately after replacing the probe - but wait a minute! It started to rise slowly, 1 degree at a time as I drove and only reached the right temperature after about 25 minutes. Best of all, this not only fixed the outside temperature display, but also restored the correct operation of the "automatic" climate mode!
