At first it squeaked when I tried to open the trunk but the release still worked so I ignored it. Then it squeaked and only opened occasionally. Then the trunk was opened only with the inside button. Then it stopped working, period. This lasted for a year before I finally decided to do something about it, knowing the dealer would charge me at least $140 for the repair ($75 labor plus parts surcharge). Boys - and girls - don't wait. This is the easiest car repair I've ever done. You remove 4 screws (2.10mm and 2.7mm), disconnect the electrical connection, replace the part and put the screws back and everything works great. Anyone with a set of sockets and a flathead screwdriver to undo an electrical connection can do it in under 20 minutes. Everyone! Looking again, I think you really need to remove the 2 7mm screws. take action.
