Review on Optimized Flirc Raspberry Pi 4 Case for Kodi by Eliza Porter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent case, effective cooling.

I've been looking for Raspberry Pi 4 cases for too long because I was worried about heat and throttling. There weren't as many options as with the Pi 3, and I couldn't find many that were easy to build, let alone fanless. Flirc covers speak well for other models and are also popular on the forums. I found a few people testing the Raspberry Pi 4 and getting good temperature results, so I decided to give it a try. Fanless is good for noise and dust, so it's my go-to choice as long as the thermals are up. I wasn't disappointed! I ran some thermal tests in both the standby and stress tests and the Flirc case helped a lot in both cases. You can look at my charts, but when idling, the Flirc case cooled the Pi by an average of 7.7 degrees Celsius. During the stress test, the Pi's temperature was 9.84 degrees Celsius cooler! Without the Flirc body, he was approaching gas threshold, peaking at 75 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of the Flirc case was 64 degrees Celsius. All tests were conducted at a room temperature of 22.22 degrees Celsius (72 degrees Fahrenheit). I've been a bit worried about the ports and whether all my cables are routed through the case, but I haven't had any issues with peripherals so far.

Pros
  • GPIO and all main connectors are easily accessible from the bottom
Cons
  • Almost never
