The Cirillo Fruit Strainer works exactly as advertised on tomatoes! Making tomato sauce is hard, dirty work. Anyone complaining about this product is obviously new to the kitchen and has never had to struggle with any of the 'traditional' plates! I've used this screen on four separate occasions and processed over 25 pounds of plum tomatoes on each of those occasions. I'm not a fan of plastic tools, but it turns out the right kind of hard and durable plastic was used in the design, construction and manufacture of this strainer. Not having to blanch and peel the tomatoes first saves a lot of time. First Time Users: - At table top level and attached to the kitchen blender, the top of the hopper is well above a comfortable working height. I'm 6ft tall and can barely see over the side of the bunker. I would recommend placing the blender on a table or other low work area. As I pressed the tomatoes against the opening of the hopper, I instinctively felt the need to support the weight of the strainer with my other hand. The screen protrudes from a small mounting point and is made of plastic. Perhaps adding legs to future designs to support the weight through downward pressure could help. But to be clear, I never fell down like the saucer would break. I felt it important to mention here. After processing 25 pounds of plum tomatoes, the pores of the screen became somewhat clogged. If I was making more than 25 pounds at a time I would probably clean the screen between batches. The screen will need to be removed, but the screen is easily cleaned with hot water and a larger diameter stiff bristle bottle brush. 25 pounds of plum tomatoes yields about 36 cups of juice/pulp. Resist the urge to recycle waste a second time. This will clog the strainer and render the juicer unusable until cleaned. I put a colander in a bowl to collect waste. A fair amount of clear liquid passes through a strainer and collects in a bowl, which I put back into my juice and pulp bowl. The Cirillo sieve saves a lot of time, causes less mess and is a welcome relief for old aching joints and muscles!
