Plastic but very strong. Several reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars. My bike didn't have enough up-down range to get the beam to the ground. I had to put with a conical washer. Also, the bike I installed it on is very open on the light mount. I expect this will be difficult to install on many bikes and impossible to install behind a caliper road brake like I've done with plain metal cleats. Another issue is that it is unable to correct up and down tilt. It appears normal when new but fails to hold its position over time.
