Rivet attachment points cut out

These shoes were worn once per round. After this ride, I could no longer press the pedal on my right foot. I had to take my shoe off and ask the coach to take my shoe off. He said the screws holding the bar were loose. He tightened the spike on his boot again. After the second ride I was able to unclip the pedals on both shoes, but when I got home I noticed that the spike on the right shoe was completely missing. Upon closer inspection and after removing a remaining cleat from the left shoe, it is apparent that the threads of the shoe anchors into which the cleat bolt is screwed are beginning to fray. The plastic on the bottom of the shoe that the spikes dig into can also be a factor. It looks like you need to tighten the studs, wait a few seconds to minutes for the edges of the stud to "sink" into that plastic, and then retighten the studs. If you don't do this, the cleat will seat in the shoe and the cleat bolts will be lost, making the pedal sloppy. Finally, I used the original screws that came with the shoe, not the screws that came with the spike, to attach the spike to the boot. They also appear to be a bit bald on the left boot. I switched the cleat from the left shoe to the right shoe and was able to tighten the cleat and then tighten it 2 more times after leaving the shoe in place for about a minute or two. We must order new boots to replace the lost ones. Let's see whether the new boots stay or the shoes are no longer good.
