Review on Technica AT2005USB Handheld Dynamic Microphone by Amanda Spencer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Amazing mic for voiceovers and podcasts that can't get better in this price range

I was specifically looking for a good dynamic mic as my recording room has a lot of problems with extra sounds and is poor handled, I was originally used capacitor, and it made editing and posting a nightmare! I mainly looked at this AT2100 and Sure SM57. Mainly because of the price and flexibility, I decided to try this one and I'm glad I did. I use it to record a podcast and in truth it has also replaced my main streaming and voip mic, the preamp seems to be of good quality and the raw tone of the mic is good and the dynamic impact of the background issues is a lot big. more predictable and easier to avoid or isolate. I also found the built-in zero latency monitoring to be a very useful feature. I haven't used the mic on instruments yet, but plan to see how it works. In short I don't see how you can beat this mic in the price range, especially when you add in all the flexibility you get from an XLR. and USB in addition to options like built-in monitoring. In fact, I'd argue that you'd have to spend nearly twice as much for an option that actually outperforms them.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Concise manual
