I have been using these bug remover brushes for over 15 years and have found them safe and effective when used as intended on painted vehicles. These pads will not scratch as the clear coating is harder than the pad material. Incorrect washing habits such as no pre-soak or pre-wash and pre-rinse when heavily soiled are more likely to cause scratches. Wash and rinse before settling on dried bugs. My problem is that the list is misleading. The size of the "Item" given in the specifications is to be understood as the "Package size". At least the actual size of the sponge should be listed somewhere. It appears to be an intentional misuse of a simple term, leading to confusion. Lots of bad reviews on this issue over a long period of time without a solution indicate questionable intentions.
