The whistle and a wick weigh 10 grams, making them very light. The device comes with 3 wicks and a very light hose. My Boy Scout son lit it very easily with a flint and even easier to put out (pull back the wick and the flame will go out as the wick enters the pipe). The great advantage of this device is that it keeps the flame away from your hand. My son nearly burned himself lighting the fire with his lighter (flame near the hold button) so the flame is lengthened by hand making the fire easier to start.
