instructions were not clear. They suggest looking for a number on the blade that tells you how big the guard cut is. I couldn't find the number on the old skates. I was able to approximate the size by eye and mark with a marker and used a hacksaw and miter box to get nice straight edges. I also needed very thin needle nose pliers to set the springs in place. I don't want to overdramatize this; The whole thing took 5 minutes and the rings fit well and appear to work well. Just don't bring an unopened pack to the rink thinking you're going to put it right on your skates.
