Review on Garmin 010 12525 00 Powered Mount by Braxton Jackson

The power supply is unstable.

I use this mount for my inReach when I ride my Dual Sport off-road. It has a few significant downsides. First, it's not waterproof. Contacts must not get wet. This is a serious problem for something chained to handlebars with no weather protection. This begs the question, what good are exposed charging contacts on an external device if they cannot be used to charge the device in inclement weather via the device's factory charging cradle. Second, even if left dry, the contacts do not make firm/permanent contact and continuously charge the device. If you're using it in a car where there's any vibration at all, inReach is constantly losing contacts and connecting to them. By any vibration I don't mean the vibration from driving down a nasty rocky trail, I mean the minimal vibration that occurs while idling from my driveway to the end of my manicured residential street that results in a permanent shutdown. If your device is set to turn itself off and on automatically, it will show the auto-off screen for a second or two every few seconds, then reconnect and return to the main menu. It mostly manages to keep the device charged as it can charge much faster than the low frequency tracking inReach draws power, but you pretty much have to turn off the auto-off feature for the device to be generally useful, while it's on the mount. I am very unhappy with the mount and think I would be better off with one of the clip mounts and a well fitting micro USB cable.
