Review on Effortless Precision: SimpleMarker T Square Marker for Woodworking Perfection by Doug Hinrichsen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better for carpentry than woodworking

Sturdy. It's .046" thick, which is about 20 gauge steel + slightly thicker paint. When used as a T-square to draw a line perpendicular to the edge of the material, it's just as square as a wireframe, so that's good. The holes are precisely spaced and drilled the correct distance from the curved "fence". There are 3 main disadvantages. First, the fact that the fence is simply curved means that it has a small radius inside. This radius prevents sharp-edged material from fully contacting the stop. In the picture you can see the gap between the aluminum bar and the guardrail because the bar is against the radius at the corner of the bend and not being able to slide to it for long can only be a problem , when marking on wood with a nice sharp edge. Lumber with rounded edges perfectly adheres to the fence. The second downside is that while the holes are drilled accurately, they are too large to mark accurately. They're about 1/1 6 inch in diameter, which means there's plenty of room for a sufficiently sharp pencil to slip down the hole. In the picture you can see 2 separate lines drawn with the same hole, the lines are about 1/32 inch apart. Third, the color is rough. the holes were covered with paint. I do "woodworking" (in quotes) at a very, very, very basic / amateur level and figured this would work for me as I rarely measure anything over 1/16th. I find fence bending radius and holes that are too big just too sloppy, even for me. I will be buying Incra and keeping it for rough carpentry work. Even for the joinery, although I feel the holes could be made smaller.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
