Never buy hardware from Netgear again

I'm a video game techie and need a fast, reliable router that can handle a demanding home during COVID. I broadcast meetings all day, work with cloud services, there are two teenage gamers in the house, and my wife works too. I updated the entire network at once. I did a lot of research and finally settled on the Netgear Nighthawk hardware. Big mistake, in less than 6 months I replaced everything. At the same time I bought: Netgear CM1100 modem Netgear XR500 router Netgear EX7000 power strip Netgear S8000 switch The first problem was the modem. I have a gigabit line and initially we were able to get it down to 650 Mbps. But after a couple of weeks the modem started requiring constant reboots. As a result, the download speed dropped to 0-30 Mbit/s. Resetting didn't help. I replaced the unit with a Motorola MB8600 and it has been rock solid ever since. The EX7000 has been useless as a power strip since the day I first installed it. It constantly loses its transit connection to the router, leaving all connected clients offline. I've tried it in several parts of the house, even in the same room with the XR500 in sight. It reboots and runs for 24 hours at best. In the end I connected the transport network and started as an access point. Performance was poor so I ended up just turning it off. The XR500 has never been high performance, the maximum WiFi speed is around 300Mbps native and 30Mbps. In the best case. Even wired clients rarely exceed 500. It also needs to be restarted weekly. There are large parts of the house where the signal cannot penetrate. And when we're getting ready for school, we need parental control. The Nighthawks don't have them. Like everyone else. So, I just installed a Gryphon router two weeks ago. Immediate recovery. It's faster, more reliable, and offers better admin customization. With a wired connection I'm currently at 930Mbps, latency is around 10ms and uptime is 40Mbps. Wireless clients around 650Mbps. So far it has been reliable and had a much, much, much better admin interface. It also caught and blocked multiple malware infiltrating my network. The S8000 Switch is good but expensive. I keep it to myself, but a cheaper box would be just as good. So Netgear is done. Hundreds of dollars wasted. The work was hard. I send all that stuff to the thrift store. Never buy from Netgear again.
