Review on Pirelli Ice Zero FR 255/45 R20 105H winter by Micha Pyra ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I'm satisfied, it's a good purchase.

These tires have been tried and tested on two vehicles I own. On asphalt, I would give the tires a score of 5, as they maintain nearly the same speed as summer tires. The steering response is rapid and accurate, in contrast to the typically smoother responses of Scandinavian friction winter tires. I'd give the rubber a 4 out of 5 stars for use on smooth floors. I was going quite fast when a car in the left lane came to a quick stop, forcing me to brake gently in an arc on the track. Snow covered the asphalt that was under the tires. The automobile slowed for around 200 to 300 meters when ABS crunched in, but the driver maintained firm grip of the wheel and easily navigated around the unexpected impediment. The second time was on the track and fresh, packed snow. His wife was at the wheel, and she drove gently in an arc, perhaps a little quicker than she should have been. At one point, a massive chunk of frozen ice flew off the vehicle in front of us and landed in the lane next to us on the left. While her husband attempted to move around her, she wound up between a bump stop and an oncoming truck. The distance between us and the truck's trailer was probably between fifty and one hundred meters, and the swaying stopped once we did. Both times, the tires performed flawlessly, keeping the car responsive to the steering wheel and allowing for smooth reflexes and slide development. My car's tires were really quiet for the first year, but by the end of the second season, they were buzzing like crazy and I had to get rid of them. For the second winter in a row, my wife has driven about town on these tires without a single complaint. Perhaps the tire maker has improved the design or changed the formula. The directional design makes Hong Kongeability completely typical. Wear was roughly 1 mm after 15 thousand km. Overall, I'd give the tires a 4, and I'd recommend them to anyone who live in big cities or who drive on smooth asphalt roads and are okay with the possibility of noise beyond the first year of use.

Pros
  • - superior performance than competitors in terms of speed index, noise level, and behavior on both snow and asphalt in the first season of operation.
Cons
  • - operational noise during the second season
