I use them as the rear shocks on my 2005 Wrangler Unlimited with no lift kit. It took them about a week to get used to it. I think they are too soft. On a big hit or dip, the back end sags. Sure, I'm running the original 12-year-old springs and my Jeep is a bit heavy due to the added weight of the reinforced bed and other accessories (plus two extra passengers and gear), but I still find the ride very soft. If you are purchasing these for the Wrangler TJ, be sure to add a bump stop about an inch higher in the rear as these shocks are slightly longer than stock. I went the cheap route and glued hockey pucks to the fender caps.
