They don't even start drilling mild steel. Even if you pre-drill slightly larger than their tip, they won't cut the threads and shear or strip the entire thread. I bought several Home Depot stainless steel self-tapping screws, the same size, and they drilled and cut holes with ease. Even make a few holes. After pre-threading all of my holes, I got about half of them to put these screws in when carefully hand-drilled. Others cut off the holes without much torque and had to be drilled out. Luckily, they pierce through easily, and screws ever created might even pierce through them. After a lot of work I finally managed to get the job done this way. These are the weakest screws I've ever had displeasure with. I only give them 3 stars because they can work in aluminum. They might not be rated for steel, but I would expect any self-tapping screw to handle mild steel.
