I thought the coat was heavier than it is. I use it for my short haired long haired dachshund. It's not very cold here yet; but when the temperature dropped she would have to wait until spring to put it on. This is definitely not a dog coat with fur. They could probably be worn in late spring to early summer. It repels water well. I would recommend spraying with tape in heavy rain; otherwise the rain will make the jacket wet. Otherwise it is a very good jacket/vest. The measurements are pretty accurate.
