I have mounted this on the handlebars of a motorcycle and together with the dual socket short arm and X-grip it holds my phone securely while riding. I've tried it on rough roads, fast roads and fast rough roads and it always stayed in place. (I put a cable around and over the phone case just in case, but it didn't move once.) I glued the rubber tips to the X-Grip as the instructions suggested if I wanted to use it on rough terrain. During installation, I placed a strip of non-slip toolbox liner under the U-bracket to avoid scratching the handlebar fairing.
