These tires have really improved my driving experience. Riding on pavement is fast but inspires confidence and stability on mixed surfaces. Since the mid 1990s I've been riding my Bianchi Axis cyclocross bike, what we now call a "gravel bike": riding on rough pavement, moderate exploration of mixed (non-racing) terrain. . The bike is stable and my Continental Touring style tires were fine. I recently built a new Surly Straggler that has quicker steering to accommodate varied local conditions, often ranging from cobbled to loose, granular, hard soil. My first ride was very unstable and scared me to death. I've searched across the board and looked at almost every brand, from Continental, Vittoria, Schwalbe etc. These other brands had a good selection but having a tire suitable for paved surfaces was a big problem so I did I finally decided on Byway tires. . I think they are the perfect combination of a fast mid-profile with small side lugs that really help on gritty hard surfaces. They stop the tendency to slide sideways when cornering or when transitioning from asphalt to hardpack. I had no trouble getting over the low concrete curbs that separate the pavement from the hard surface. I bought a 700cx40 so I could depressurize a bit, which didn't affect my speed much but did affect ride comfort.
