I just completed charge cycles of over forty 18650 cells with this unit with no problems. Never had an overheating problem. However, early in the cycle it got hot as expected, but never to the point where I couldn't hold the charger. I took a reviewer's advice and used a small fan to blow off the heat generated. Installing the charger vertically allows more heat to be dissipated from the ventilated side. All the batteries were of the LG MH1 type with a capacity of 3200mAh, 3.7V. Buying cheap bulk electronics in China is risky at best, but if you buy a good battery you are paying a lot less for a product that works as intended , it's just "luck of the draw".
