2007 Classic 2500HD Crew 4x4

After 168,000 on my 2007 Classic 2500HD 4x4 Crew, my pitman and idler were too loose to line up. I decided to replace the inner/outer links and upper/lower ball joints at the same time, all Moog. Pitman/Idler/tierods took about 3 hours and I had no experience with it. There is a crossbar that prevented me from attaching the Autozone puller, but I found a much simpler solution. Take a small angle grinder (I used a grinder with a cut-off wheel) and cut down to 1/8" from the slot, this took about 10 minutes. Then use an air hammer or chisel to split the metal out, the total effort is less than 15 minutes, and there is no need to move the steering or break any joints.both disconnected, the damper disconnected and the center link removed. Then I slightly centered the links in my vise (inches on either side ) and my handlebars were just enough to retract for alignment - they actually pulled less than they did before the repair. The hardest part of the whole job was the ball joints which were taken over the next day and a really big breaker. People are asking a spline 3 vs 4. I had 3 splines and it's easy to see if you lift the bearing cup over the bipod arm you should only be able to see the splines em from what i read 4 splines are only on 1500s and maybe vans.

Pros
  • Superb Construction
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
