I bought a set and only had enough batteries for 3 of the 5 candles and was impressed by how pretty and realistic the light seemed, from a distance it definitely looks like true candlelight. However, once I got new batteries, I put them in the 4th candle, turned it on, and it didn't work. I immediately smelled a burning scent coming from the battery compartment. I then put batteries in the 5th candle and the same thing happened, and my room had a burnt smell from just from those few seconds. The bottom of those two candles still smell burnt. So I can't trust the safety on these and will be returning the set, despite liking their appearance.
