Review on Hillbilly Protective Gear 27042 Impact by Alex Panda

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for single wheel riding

I bought two of these along with several other brands. What I particularly like about these Impact Shorts is the protection, the quality of the padding and the fit. Compared to the other two brands I've tried, I feel more confident with this pair. They're not too bulky, which I really appreciate. They feel a bit odd to wear due to the extra bulk, but they wouldn't be as effective without padding. The padding feels dense and thick, with a hard outer layer that offers enough flexibility for my needs. With coccyx pads I don't feel it at all when standing, but when seated they feel comfortable and don't bother my male parts. The material of the shorts, not the padding, is a woven material that has enough stretch. It's breathable and the elastic at the hips keeps them in place without moving, which is much appreciated. However, the material seems a little flimsy and I put them on carefully. This caution disappears when worn. They have a drawstring waist which I think is too short but they get the job done. I tied the knots just below the end so they wouldn't get caught in the thread. Not my favorite part of the shorts but they get the job done. I've had a number of falls since I bought them and have not injured myself in relatively painless falls. Rolling over when falling will help cushion the effects of a fall, and shorts will help roll over. The brand I tried was Bodyprox. You'll have more coverage with thicker padding at a lower price. However, they were uncomfortable for me and that's why I really didn't want to wear them. It's no use to me if I never wear them. Also, I found they looked weird under pants and I felt I had to choose what I wear keeping comfort in mind. Also, I thought they looked weird when I wore them. Another brand I tried was Benken, which I found very comfortable. They had a zip and velcro closure at the waist which ensured a snug and comfortable fit without the hassle of putting them on or being careful with the fabric. I chose Hillbilly over Benken because they lacked padding on the thighs.
