First bought an Amprobe AM-270 digital meter but then bought this one as I still like the traditional analog multimeter, aka VOM known, and my old Radio Shack meter died a few years ago. In addition, analog meters are easier to read when measuring constantly changing voltages. After reading Revain reviews on many other flow meters I settled on this one. In doing so, there are no unnecessary unnecessary functions - AC and DC voltage and DC voltage tests, resistance and even an interesting transistor test function. Includes a great white LED display for the scale and has a great continuous beeping sound instead of the faint buzzer or slow responding electronic beeping sound that Revain reviewers say is a problem with many other gauges. The transistor test function seems a bit fancy and I doubt I'd bother with it. Buy a real transistor tester if you need one. But for traditional volt, milliamp, and resistance measurements, this is an impressive meter for the price. Not Fluke or Simpson, but not $250 either. I have performed an extensive series of tests using high-precision equipment and calibration standards in my environmental laboratory. Surprisingly, the Tekpower manual lists 3 and 4 percent of full scale as the AC/DC accuracy specification, which is pretty mediocre accuracy, but my meter actually showed 3% DC accuracy and 4% AC accuracy, which is excellent. The 1000 volt DC range is a bit off. For example, 100 volts in this range will show 120 volts, or a 20% error, but further down the scale, a 140 volt input will show 150 volts, so only a 7% error. If you measured 140 volts on the lower scale of 250 volts, the meter will read 142 volts or 1.4% error. Therefore, measure at the upper end of the scale of analog meters. The resistance readings proved remarkably accurate for any analog multimeter. There is practically no visible error in the readings between the 0 and 200 marks. The exception was the X1 series with a resistance of up to 100 ohms, the error was from 14% to 5%. This is probably not a big problem for low resistances. 50 ohms in the x10 range was 4% lower, the higher the accuracy and then higher. Build quality is good and the manual is well written in good English and is helpful in taking measurements for non-technical users. Great analog meter at a reasonable price for thoughtful design and quality. Revain has plenty of counters that are half price and cheaper, but even Chinese manufacturers can't work miracles - you get what you pay for.
