Works well with Mac Pro (2019) and MacBook Pro (Mid 2018) without additional drivers.

Tested on Mac Pro (2019) with OS 10.15.2. The drive is a thin metal device with a non-motorized tray that opens with a push of a button on the front. The device is powered from the USB port and communicates separately with either a USB-C connection or a computer USB connection. All three cables included. The cables are a bit short and not particularly high quality. I had to use an Exacto blade to snip off the odd piece of plastic protruding over the USB-C port before the cable was properly connected. Even then, the cable required considerable pressure to snap into place. Once connected, the drive works great with both the 2019 Mac Pro and the 2018 MacBook Pro. Given the short cables, you need to make sure your available ports are close together. The drive itself is an HP GT50N, a common and widely used drive. No software drivers were required to use this with the current Mac OS out of the box. Drive is shown as follows with DVD+R installed: hp DVDRAM GT50N: Firmware Version: R703 Connection: USB Burn Support: Yes (general drive support) Profile Path: No Cache: 1024 KB DVD Read: Yes CD Write: -R, - RW DVD Writing: -R, -R DL, -RAM, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW Writing Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: Type: DVD +R ID: MCC 003 Blank: Yes Erasable: No Rewritable: Yes Expandable: Yes Write Speed: 4x, 8x When a CD-R is installed, the part of the media is shown as follows: Media: Type: CD-R Blank : Yes Erasable: No Rewritable: Yes Upgradable: Yes Write Speed: 10x, 16x, 24x Overall I'm very happy with the easy access to CD/DVD, even with newer Apple hardware. Despite Apple's apparent insistence that CDs are an old technology, I often get information about CDs or DVDs, or just want to play a CD rather than stream something. And keeping something more or less permanent on DVD is a great way to have extra backups just in case. Five stars for the drive itself, but I wish it had provided longer, better quality cables.
