Fantastic starting resource for learning animal footprints

Bought for my niece for her 5th birthday along with Selsam's Big Footprints, Small Footprints: Animal Footprints. They're pretty thin and can be bent (the 3-year-old nephew ripped one off when we weren't looking, ha). But they held up well until she learned to use them. She pressed very hard at first, but I showed her how to detach the paper from the crayon and use it horizontally. It worked great for her! Of course, it won't look like it was made by an adult, but what about children's drawings? This gives her a chance to practice her fine motor skills and I look forward to asking her questions when we go camping. Big Footprints read a little book of footprints before coloring, and she learned the difference between "dog and cat" prints (timber wolf and cougar). This set also includes instructions for use and additional craft ideas such as using plaster of paris. All in all it's a cute set to use with some guidance, once they get the hang of it just keep coloring them, a great way to introduce kids to the tracks, highly recommend the Big Tracks, Little Tracks book to add, try them when you go hiking!

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • I dunno

I bought this to teach young cub scouts. It made teaching animal tracks easy and fun.
