Surprisingly good for the money.

Okay, you're not going to get Bausch & Lomb or Karl Zeiss for the tiny amount of money you just spent, let's get that out of the way. ;) But it's not a dig piece as only a fool would expect such quality at this price point. What you get is a surprisingly cute little plastic magnifying glass. Decently wide field of view for the device's performance, excellent magnification, and a built-in LED that you can use as an emergency flashlight (I'm not kidding, the body is probably too bright for the task.) I'm no optician, but the lens doesn't distort, I can see from the center to the edge and the image is very clear with or without backlighting. The only downside is that the switch is awkwardly located next to the LED light and is a bit difficult to use. The lens comes in a decent, form-fitting plastic case, and includes a tiny wrench that you'll need to open a small flap with to change the batteries. Don't lose it! Unless you're a very serious tech with a wide variety of drivers, you probably won't have a spare, at least not if you're working with optics or small screws. For the money, this is a handy tool for anyone who *really* needs close-up photography. If you buy jewelry, take this. It won't impress the jeweler, he or she has much better stuff, but it will give you a good overview. Oh, and I wouldn't call it a "magnifying glass" because you can't hold it in your hands. Press an eyebrow against it so both hands are free. This is a standard large folding magnifier that is about an inch and a half wide at its longest point (including the hinge). So if you want that kind of look, look elsewhere. In the picture he is what he is, but some people just don't look.

Pros
  • Bead and Jewelry Making
Cons
  • Slightly Torn
