I have used the Hunter 30055 for many years in the bedrooms of a period home we are renovating. My family needs clean air while they sleep and there is a lot of dust in this old house. I decided to try this brand as I waited too long for my usual brand to be delivered on time from another company. I returned these filters after trying one for only five minutes for the following reason: (1) Strong chemical odor, apparently from the carbon element, which is supposed to *remove* odors. The smell has not disappeared after five minutes of fan operation. I want a filter that improves air quality, not lowers it with questionable chemicals. (2) The electrostatic mesh on the front of the filter is opaque black, not the transparent one I'm used to. I suppose this will make it more difficult to determine the remaining filter life. I usually know when it's time to change the filter by the color of the paper element. A dense black grid would not allow a reasonable assessment here.
