I have no idea why the flat blade design isn't as common. You'll still want to use your traditional tape measure to measure a room or wall (or whenever you want the tape to stand up straight as it's very flexible), but it's perfect for measuring and marking on something flat a table or half. Of course, having the markings on the tape measure directly on the part to be measured is an obvious advantage. But what's even better for me is that I can clamp it onto a work piece, lay it down, even hang it over the edge of a table or work piece, and it won't roll or rotate and move the tape measure out of place. The tape lies flat. I can't tell you how many times I've cursed my traditional roulette in this situation! Can't say anything about durability yet, but so far I'm really liking it. Hope Revain or another seller will start selling this with first class shipping. Shipping took too long, but that's at the seller's expense.
