Update 5/2020: Just received another replacement unit under warranty (22 month warranty for 24 months). Water no longer flows out of the brewing tank. Having to return my original car in what I thought was an accident, I now have concerns about the reliability of this Krups. The machine works great for grinding and brewing, but changing it twice in two years is not good! From 4 to 3 stars. Before I bought Krups I did a lot of research on mills and breweries (Capresso, Cuisinart, DeLonghi, Krups, Kenmore) that cost hundreds of dollars (Breville). Background: I had a Cuisinart grind and brew coffee grinder (DGB550) for 6 years before the filter basket appeared when using whole beans (vibration from the grinder) resulting in coffee and grounds spilling all over the countertop and in the car were spilled. I took it for granted to wash (rather than just quick rinse) the grinder + lid, filter basket + lid and carafe every time we used the machine. So I was determined to find a grinder that makes decent fresh coffee, is easy to clean, and doesn't cost money. I've had Krups for 2 months now and overall it's great. I had to send the first one back because it sometimes didn't work. After speaking to Krups customer service, the only option was to go through a no-grind brew cycle. At this point, the machine would essentially restart so I could run the brew-grind cycle. Pretty sure it was a specific device defect, no issues as I replaced it with a new one. The main complaints I saw in the Krups reviews were that 1) some of the grist was wasted during brewing because it wouldn't get wet, 2) too many grains are used, 3) inconsistent brew strength, 4) grinding noise, 5) a small bean holder. Feedback: 1) Whenever I brew, the grist is all wet and even in the filter, so I haven't noticed any problems. 2) I couldn't find a grinder anywhere, so I'm not sure if it uses significantly more beans than it takes to brew coffee. 3) As long as the coffee doesn't taste weak or have a high concentration, I don't mind. The coffee is delicious at all strength levels. 4) Yes, it's loud, but no louder than my Cuisinart. Any mechanical grinding action is noisy unless it's built deeper into the machine or has additional barriers to reduce sound transmission (I believe more expensive machines are better at this, but this isn't necessarily the primary consideration when designing a coffee maker) . ) We brew 5-6 cups (2 full large mugs) almost every day and have to refill the bean hopper every few days. not too uncomfortable for me. Other observations: The carafe is a bit flimsy, especially the lid that pops open when you pour coffee. Always remember to keep your thumb up; Cleaning is easy as you only have to empty and rinse the filter basket along with the jug; A gold colored filter is common on most coffee makers and I've never found it to be effective (compared to a paper filter). Overall I'm very happy with the grind from Krups.
